A manifesto on Resource Re-Use in Interactive Information Retrieval - How to move a research community towards improved research data management

In March 2021, we presented a perspective paper on resource re-use at the ACM CHIIR intended to draw the attention of the interactive information retrieval (IIR) community to the challenges of research documentation and archiving for future use. The paper was the outcome of several workshops on this topic and is part of an ongoing initiative to raise awareness of research data management issues in the community. In this presentation, we first discuss the motivation and ongoing activities in this initiative and then present eight principles for improving the re-use of resources in the IIR community and a five-level system for data archiving and documentation. We end with some speculative thoughts on how effective such a grassroots effort can be.
