An der Philosophischen Fakultät, Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft, ist eine
W2-Professur „Open Science“
zum 01.10.2026 zu besetzen.
Von den Bewerber*innen (m/w/d) wird Expertise im Bereich Informationsinfrastrukturen für Open Science sowie in mehreren der folgenden Bereiche erwartet:
- Forschungsdatenmanagement
- Open Access und digitale Wissenschaftskommunikation
- digitale Dienste der Informations- und Wissensproduktion
- Management von Forschungsinformationen
- Wissenschaftspolitik und Open Science
- wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken im Kontext sich wandelnder Informations- und Wissenspraktiken
Gewünscht sind Forschungsarbeiten in grundlagenorientierten (Theoriebildung) und angewandten Themen der Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft, insbesondere stehen die digitale Transformation wissenschaftlicher Informationsinfrastrukturen, Standards, Policies, Reformen und Praktiken für Open Science und deren Implikationen für Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft sowie die soziotechnischen Prozesse der Informationsproduktion und -versorgung im Fokus. Die Professur ergänzt und bereichert die Lehr- und Forschungsgebiete des Instituts.
Das Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft (IBI) leitet seinen Auftrag aus dem stetigen Wandel der Informationsgesellschaft ab. Das IBI nimmt eine einzigartige Stellung in der deutschen Wissenschaftslandschaft ein, da es sich auf Informationsinfrastrukturen, insbesondere Bibliotheken, konzentriert. Es ist das einzige universitäre informationswissenschaftliche Institut, das Bibliothekswissenschaft und bibliothekarische Praxis als Forschungsschwerpunkt hat. Dabei zeichnet sich das Institut durch die Verzahnung von informationswissenschaftlichen und wissenschaftsforschenden Perspektiven aus.
Der/die Stelleninhaber*in demonstriert herausragende nationale und internationale Forschungsaktivitäten - nachgewiesen durch begutachtete Publikationen -, universitäre Lehrerfahrung und Begutachtungserfahrung, Erfahrung in der Einwerbung und Durchführung von Drittmittelprojekten sowie Transfertätigkeiten in nationale Informationsinfrastrukturen.
Der/die Stelleninhaber*in bietet in allen Studiengängen (BA und MA) des Instituts Lehre an und übernimmt die Verantwortung für Lehrmodule (teilweise in Englisch), insbesondere Informationsproduktion und -management (BA) und digitale Informationsversorgung und digitale Informationsinfrastrukturen (MA).
Die Anforderungen für die Berufung gemäß § 100 des Berliner Hochschulgesetzes müssen erfüllt werden.
Voraussetzungen sind neben der Promotion weitere wissenschaftliche Leistungen, die mit einer Habilitation oder mit habilitationsäquivalenten Leistungen nachgewiesen werden können. Ebenfalls vorausgesetzt werden pädagogische Eignung einschließlich Erfahrungen in der Hochschullehre sowie Erfahrung in der Einwerbung und Durchführung von Drittmittelprojekten. Gewünscht wird ein Engagement in der inneruniversitären akademischen Selbstverwaltung.

The Department of Library and Information Science of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for a
Full Professorship ‘Open Science’ (W2)
from 1 October 2026.
Applicants (m/f/d) are expected to have expertise in the area of Information Infrastructures for Open Science as well as in several of the following areas:
- Research Data Management
- Open Access and Digital Scholarly Communication
- Digital Services for Information and Knowledge Production
- Research Information Management
- Science Policy and Open Science
- Research Libraries in the Context of Changing Information and Knowledge Practices
Research activities should cover both theory development and applied topics in Library and Information Science. Particular focus is placed on the digital transformation of scholarly information infrastructures, standards, policies, reforms and practices for Open Science and their implications for research and society, and the sociotechnical processes of information production and provision. This professorship will complement and enrich the teaching and research fields of the department.
The Department of Library and Information Science (IBI) derives its mission from the constant transformation of the information society. The IBI holds a unique position in the German academic landscape, focusing on information infrastructures, particularly libraries. It is the only university-based information science department that prioritizes library science and library practice as research focal points. The department distinguishes itself through the integration of information science and science studies perspectives.
The position holder will demonstrate outstanding national and international research activities, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, university-level teaching experience, experience in academic peer review processes, successful acquisition and management of third-party funded projects, and active contributions to national information infrastructures.
The successful candidate will teach in all study programs (BA and MA) of the department and take responsibility for teaching modules (some in English), particularly the modules Information Production and Management (BA) and Digital Information Management and Digital Information Infrastructures (MA).
The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the `Berliner Hochschulgesetz`.
Applicants must have a completed doctoral degree and additional academic achievements that are equivalent to a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent qualifications. Also required are teaching aptitude, including experience in higher education teaching, and proven experience in acquiring and managing third-party funded research projects. Engagement in internal academic self-governance is also desired.
