and students of the Berlin School of Library and Information Science

Building and further development of the Amerikahaus-Archive is a joint project of the Berlin School of Library and Information Science (IBI), the U.S. Embassy in Berlin and the Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin (ZLB). Parts of the (former) Amerikahaus library collection have been digitized and indexed by students of the Berlin School of Library and Information Science in 2007 and 2008 under the guidance of Professor Michael Seadle. Digitization and publication were possible through fundings of the U.S. Embassy in Berlin.

The Digital Library "Amerikahaus-Archiv" shows Material from the "Amerikahaus"-Library and makes them accessible online, free of charges and with user-friendly research tools. This way it is a valuable contribution to research concerning culture and information policy of the United States of America after the Second World War.

The digitization of the "Amerikadienst"-documents, provided by the Amerikahaus followed the parameters listed below:

Resolution: 300dpi

Colour: greyscale

Character Recognition (OCR): by Abbyy Finereader

File Formats:
Online: PDF/A
Archive: Tiff uncompressed

Digitized by: Mikro-Univers GmbH

The "Amerikahaus-Archiv" is technically based on the open source system Greenstone for digital libraries. The collection was recorded, managed and indexed with the help of this software. Metadata was generated using DublinCore.
