i4G - Shaping the iSchools' Identity and Interaction in a Globalized World

Description

Established in 2005, the iSchools is an international organization with currently 102 academic institutions engaged in the field of information. It has a strong  interdisciplinary orientation and is concerned with the interrelations between people, information and technology. The iSchools organization aims to improve the visibility of the research and teaching activities of its members and emphasizes the importance of “information” as a research field. The member institutions cooperate to develop solutions and communication strategies for their research content and topics as well as for their graduates. The Berlin School of Library and Information Science (IBI) joined the iSchools organization in 2008.

In order to reach a greater consolidation of the organization and to provide a more comprehensive transparency of the iSchools community, the i4G project, granted by the Mellon Foundation, develops two deliverables: a diversity map and a knowledge graph. The diversity map shows the conceptual diversity and the interdisciplinary orientation of the iSchools. The Knowledge Graph represents a search space for the research and teaching activities of the individual iSchools and their networks. Thereby, the diverse perspectives and commitments of the iSchools within the context of the triad "Information - People - Technology" will become visible internally and externally in this breadth for the first time.

Since the Fall of  2019, the IBI participates in the i4G project and investigates the current conceptual and organizational orientation of European iSchools.
