Preparing your stay in Germany
Be aware that German law requires you to take a range of bureaucratic steps as part of preparing your stay in Germany. Our page HU International provides you with all you need to know about those steps. Consult especially the Guide for International Students as it literally guides you through the process.
Note that it takes time to find accommodation in Berlin. This can take several months in some cases, and it may take longer closer to the start of the semester in October. That is why candidates should begin looking and applying for housing sufficiently in advance. That is possible from abroad. Students need to be physically in Berlin for enrolment in the last week of September so that they can submit all enrolment documents on time. The due date usually is the last day in September. Students are required to have a valid address that is registered by the city by then.
