Von Posen nach Berlin: Emanuel Kulczycki zum Professor für Science Studies berufen

Wir gratulieren Prof. Dr. Emanuel Kulczycki herzlich zu seiner Berufung zum Professor für Science Studies an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und freuen uns, ihn am Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft begrüßen zu dürfen!
Emanuel Kulczycki leitet seit Februar 2026 die Abteilung „Forschungssystem und Wissenschafts-dynamik“ am Deutschen Zentrum für Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsforschung (DZHW). Parallel dazu ist er als Professor für Wissenschaftsforschung an die Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin berufen worden. Seine akademische Laufbahn ist eng mit der Adam-Mickiewicz-Universität verbunden, an der er sowohl promovierte als auch 2016 seine Habilitation abschloss. Nach beruflichen Stationen in der Philosophie und Informatik verantwortete er dort ab 2016 die Forschungsgruppe „Wissenschaftliche Kommunikation“, die er bis Anfang 2026 leitete.
Mit Forschungsschwerpunkten in der Szientometrie, dem mehrsprachigen wissenschaftlichen Publizieren und der „Predatory Publishing“-Praxis, untersucht er, wie akademische Praktiken, Wissensproduktion und die Steuerung der Wissenschaft durch Evaluationssysteme und wissenschaftliche Kommunikation geprägt werden.
Sein aktives Engagement in der Wissenschaftspolitik und in der Reform der Forschungsevaluation spiegelt sich auch jenseits der akademischen Sphäre in seinen Führungs- und Beratungspositionen in nationalen und internationalen Netzwerken wider. Unter anderem ist er Mitbegründer der Helsinki Initiative on Multilingualism in Scholarly Communication, war Co-Vorstand der Arbeitsgruppe „Multilingualism and Language Bias in Research Assessment“ der Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) sowie Vorstand des European Network for Research Evaluation in the Social Sciences and Humanities (ENRESSH).

We are delighted to extend our warmest congratulations to Prof. Dr. Emanuel Kulczycki on his appointment as Professor of Science Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and to welcome him to the Department of Library and Information Science.
Since February 2026, Emanuel Kulczycki has been leading the Department of “Research System and Dynamics of Science” at the German Centre for Higher Education and Science Research (DZHW). At the same time, he serves as a Professor of Science Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His academic career is closely linked to Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, where he earned both his doctorate and, in 2016, his habilitation in philosophy. Following appointments in philosophy and computer science, he headed the “Scholarly Communication” research group there for almost a decade, from 2016 until early 2026.
Focusing on scientometrics, multilingual scholarly publishing, and predatory publishing, his research investigates how evaluation systems and scholarly communication shape academic practices, knowledge production, and the governance of science.
His active involvement in science policy and research assessment reforms beyond academia is further reflected in the leadership and advisory roles he has held within national and international research evaluation and policy networks. Examples of his engagement include co-founding the Helsinki Initiative on Multilingualism in Scholarly Communication, co-chairing the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) Working Group on Multilingualism and Language Bias in Research Assessment, and chairing the European Network for Research Evaluation in the Social Sciences and Humanities (ENRESSH).
